Toronto Hydro is in the process of replacing and removing the handwells in our ward. A handwell is an underground unit that contains wiring for infrastructure such as street lighting and traffic lights. These upgrades are necessary to ensure that hydro equipment is operating safely and in a reliable manner.
The work involves some excavation but there will be no power interruptions as a result of this project. The project is tentatively scheduled to start mid-May 2016 with an approximate completion by late July 2016 as weather permits. Handwells on the following streets in Ward 13 will be replaced: Coe Hill Drive, Ellis Gardens, Lakeshore Boulevard, South Kingsway, Southport Street, Station Street, The Queensway, Windermere Avenue.
Toronto Hydro's contractor has been instructed to take extra care and precautions in order to minimize disruptions on both public and private property. A supervisor will be onsite throughout the course of this project and residents are encouraged to discuss any concerns you may have with them. Notices will go out in advance to affected residents. Please be advised that parking may be limited between the hours of 7:00 AM and 5:00 PM near the project.
